Why choose a 2-zone Bluetooth tap timer?

A 2-zone tap timer allows two separate garden watering systems to be controlled automatically from a single outside tap. The Hunter BTT-201 combines this flexibility with simple Bluetooth programming from a smartphone, without requiring mains electricity or a separate irrigation controller.

It is particularly useful where different areas need different watering schedules. For example, one outlet can operate a drip irrigation system for pots and hanging baskets while the second waters a flower border or greenhouse.

Control two watering zones independently

Each outlet on the Hunter BTT-201 is controlled independently, allowing different watering times and schedules to be set for each area of the garden.

This means plants with different watering requirements do not have to be watered together. One zone might operate briefly every day for pots and hanging baskets, while the second runs for longer on selected days to water a border or drip irrigation system.

Operating the zones separately can also help where the outside tap does not have sufficient flow to run both irrigation systems at the same time.

Bluetooth control from your smartphone

The Hunter BTT-201 is programmed using the free Hunter BTT app on a compatible iOS or Android smartphone. Bluetooth provides a simple connection without needing Wi-Fi, a hub or a mains electrical supply.

Schedules, watering times and manual operation can all be controlled through the app when you are within Bluetooth range. Hunter specifies a maximum communication distance of approximately 10m, although the actual range can vary according to site conditions.

Once programmed, the timer stores its watering schedule internally, so your smartphone does not need to remain nearby for automatic watering to take place. A single smartphone can also manage multiple Hunter BTT controllers.

Timer mode and Cycling mode

The Hunter BTT provides two different ways to programme automatic watering.

Timer mode

Timer mode is ideal for normal garden watering. Select the watering days, start times and run time, and the controller will automatically operate the selected zone according to the programmed schedule.

Cycling mode

Cycling mode repeatedly switches the water on and off within a defined watering period. The watering run time and the soak time between cycles can be set independently.

This is particularly useful for applications such as drip irrigation, propagation and seed germination, where shorter repeated watering periods may be preferable to one long application. It can also help water soak gradually into soils where applying too much water at once could cause run-off.

Hunter 1-zone or 2-zone Bluetooth tap timer?

Both Hunter BTT models provide the same straightforward Bluetooth smartphone control. The main difference is whether you need to control one or two watering areas independently.

Choose the Hunter 1-Zone Bluetooth Tap Timer if everything connected to the tap can be watered together. Choose the 2-zone BTT-201 where two areas need separate schedules or need to operate independently.

2-zone tap timer or multi-zone valve manifold?

The Hunter BTT-201 is an excellent solution for smaller garden watering systems where simple installation and two independently controlled outlets are required. For larger systems, more watering zones or applications requiring higher flow rates, a full-size irrigation valve manifold may be more suitable.

Installation and connection

The Hunter BTT-201 is designed for quick installation directly onto an outside garden tap. It uses a 1″ BSP inlet with a ¾” connection and has two ¾” outlets for connecting garden hose or irrigation pipe using suitable fittings.

The controller is powered by two AA alkaline batteries, which are included, so no electrical wiring is required. Once installed, download the Hunter BTT app, switch on Bluetooth and connect to the controller while within range.

If you still need to use the outside tap for hand watering, a brass tap manifold can be fitted to provide a separate outlet alongside the timer.

The BTT is designed for outdoor irrigation use but should be protected from frost. During winter, isolate the water supply, remove the timer where necessary and store it in a frost-free location.
