Product details
This metal professional watering lance is a beautifully balanced US manufactured lance which has a solid brass on/off valve with a smooth valve action. 60cm or 75cm long, it has a soft foam handle and durable cast aluminium spray head designed to aerate the water flow.
Why choose the Dramm professional watering lance?
The Dramm professional watering lance is designed for regular, heavy-duty hand watering in nurseries, garden centres and gardens where reliability and high water flow are important. Unlike many lightweight watering wands, it combines a strong aluminium lance, cast aluminium Waterbreaker head and solid brass shut-off valve, making it suitable for frequent professional use. The Waterbreaker head delivers a soft, aerated flow of water, allowing large volumes of water to be applied quickly without the harsh jet that can damage plants, disturb compost or wash soil away from roots. The aluminium construction keeps the lance relatively lightweight and comfortable to use, while the brass valve provides smooth, positive control of the water flow. Available in 60cm and 75cm lengths, and with a choice of 170AL low-flow or 400AL high-flow Waterbreaker heads, the lance can be matched to both domestic water supplies and higher-flow professional nursery systems. 60cm or 75cm watering lance?
The 60cm watering lance is the best all-round choice for general hand watering. It gives good reach while remaining easy to manoeuvre around benches, pots, containers and garden borders. For most domestic gardens and everyday nursery use, the 60cm version will be the most practical option.
The 75cm watering lance provides extra reach, making it useful for watering across wider beds, nursery benches or groups of containers without having to stretch or step between plants. It can also make watering more comfortable where plants are positioned further away or access is restricted.
Both lengths use the same professional Dramm construction and can be supplied with either the 170AL or 400AL Waterbreaker, so the choice of length is mainly determined by how much reach you need.
As a professional irrigation company, we sell lots of brands of hand watering lance, but in our experience, this is the best constructed metal professional watering lance out there. Feedback from our customers shows they think these are so much better than other models they have tried. The lances are produced by DRAMM in the USA. According to their website “In 1945 John Dramm invented the 400AL Waterbreaker. Designed to offer a soft, aerated flow for watering plants, this invention sparked a revolution in hand watering.” The metal professional watering lance is available with quick coupling (QC) inlet for use with snap connectors (compatible with Hozelock or Gardena connectors) or ‘Geka’ style inlet for Nursery use.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the 170AL and 400AL Waterbreaker?
The 170AL Waterbreaker is the lower-flow option, delivering approximately 1,560 litres per hour at 2.7 bar, making it well suited to domestic gardens and water supplies with more limited flow. The 400AL Waterbreaker delivers approximately 2,520 litres per hour at 2.7 bar and is designed for faster watering in nurseries, garden centres and other professional horticultural applications
Is the Dramm professional watering lance suitable for domestic gardens?
Yes. Although designed for professional use, the lance is also an excellent choice for keen gardeners who want a durable, high-quality watering lance. For most domestic water supplies, the 170AL Waterbreaker is normally the most suitable option.
Why use a watering lance instead of a spray gun?
A watering lance allows a high volume of water to be applied while the Waterbreaker head turns the flow into a soft, aerated shower. This makes it much gentler on plants, seedlings and compost than a concentrated jet of water. The extra reach also makes it easier to water beds, containers and plants without bending or stretching.
Which watering lance length should I choose – 60cm or 75cm?
The 60cm lance is the best general-purpose option and is easy to manoeuvre around pots, benches and garden borders. The 75cm lance provides additional reach and is useful for wider beds, nursery benches and areas where plants are more difficult to access.
Can I connect the watering lance to a normal garden hose?
Yes. The lance is available with connection options suitable for both standard garden hose quick-connect fittings and GEKA-style professional hose fittings. Choose the connection type that matches your existing hose system.
Is the watering lance suitable for seedlings and young plants?
Yes. The Waterbreaker produces a soft flow that is much gentler than a conventional hose jet, making it suitable for many young plants and seedlings. For particularly delicate seedlings, a specialist seedling nozzle is also available.
Can the Waterbreaker head and other parts be replaced?
Yes. One of the advantages of the Dramm professional watering lance is that key components are replaceable. 170AL and 400AL Waterbreaker heads, as well as other lance spares and accessories, are available separately, helping extend the working life of the lance.
Is the Dramm watering lance suitable for nurseries and garden centres?
Yes. The lance is designed for regular professional hand watering and is particularly well suited to nurseries, garden centres, glasshouses and other horticultural environments. The aluminium lance keeps the weight down, while the cast aluminium Waterbreaker and solid brass valve are designed for frequent use.
