Designed for low pressure irrigation systems in horticultural nurseries, garden centre, market gardens and private domestic gardens. Used for drip systems and small sprinkler systems in flower borders and garden beds. Low pressure pipe also has the advantage that the side wall of the pipe can be punched with a small hole punch to allow the connection of drippers and sprinkler take-off connections to the pipe. In horticulture the pipe can be used as a header for trickle irrigation lines.

Why use 16mm LDPE pipe for irrigation?

16mm LDPE pipe is widely used in garden, landscape and horticultural irrigation because it is flexible, lightweight and easy to install. It can be laid above ground around beds, borders and growing areas, making it ideal for carrying water to dripline, individual drippers, micro sprinklers and other low-flow irrigation outlets. The pipe can be easily cut to length and connected using simple 16mm barbed or PoziLock fittings, allowing irrigation systems to be altered or extended as planting layouts change. Drippers and small take-offs can also be installed directly into the wall of the pipe where required. Its black LDPE construction makes it suitable for outdoor irrigation use, while the 4 bar pressure rating provides ample capacity for most drip and micro irrigation systems. For larger systems, 16mm pipe is often used as a local supply or header pipe, with larger diameter pipe used for the main water supply.

What is the difference between 16mm supply pipe and 16mm dripline?

Although both products are commonly 16mm in diameter, 16mm supply pipe and 16mm dripline perform different jobs within an irrigation system. 16mm supply pipe is a plain LDPE pipe with no built-in water outlets. Its job is to carry water from the main supply to drippers, micro sprinklers or lengths of dripline. Individual drippers and take-off fittings can also be inserted directly into the pipe where required. 16mm dripline, by comparison, has drip emitters built into the pipe at regular intervals. These emitters release water slowly and evenly along the length of the pipe, making dripline ideal for watering hedges, borders and planting beds. If you simply need to transport water around an irrigation system, choose 16mm supply pipe. If you want the pipe itself to apply water directly to plants, you will normally need 16mm dripline.

Fittings for low pressure irrigation pipe include 16mm barbed fittings and 16mm PoziLock fittings. Barbed fittings are low cost and produce a neat joint, with the fitting inside the pipe itself. PoziLock fittings are bulkier but are more resistant to coming off, making them ideal for harder to reach areas such as roof decks. Use with 16mm barbed fittings or PoziLock fittings.
