Flower Bed and Border Drip Irrigation Kit

The Small Border Drip Kit includes 25m of dripline and is suitable for watering flower beds and borders covering up to approximately 15m². The Large Border Drip Kit includes 100m of dripline and can cover an area of up to approximately 60m². Actual coverage will depend on the shape of the bed and how closely the dripline needs to be spaced.

For most flower beds and shrub borders, lay the dripline in parallel rows approximately 50–60cm apart. Closer spacing may be helpful in sandy soil, densely planted beds or areas containing shallow-rooted plants. The dripline can be held in position using ground stakes and arranged around established plants where necessary.

Yes. The Border Drip Kit can be connected to a standard outdoor garden tap. The kit includes the filter and inlet fittings needed to connect the dripline, although additional supply pipe (with no drippers in) may be required if the flower bed is some distance from the tap.

Yes. A compatible tap timer can be fitted between the outdoor tap and the irrigation system, allowing the border to be watered automatically. This is particularly useful during dry weather or when you are away from home. Watering early in the morning or during the evening will also help reduce evaporation.

Yes. The dripline can be laid on the soil surface and covered with a layer of mulch, bark or decorative material. This helps conceal the pipe, protects it from sunlight and further reduces water loss through evaporation. Take care not to bury the dripline deeply or damage it when working in the bed. You should check with you local Water Company as they treat underground drip systems differently to dripline on the surface.

Yes. The system can be extended by adding more compatible dripline, supply pipe and fittings. Before extending it significantly, check that the available water flow and pressure are sufficient for the additional pipe. Larger gardens may need to be divided into separate watering zones.

Yes. Although designed primarily for flower beds and shrub borders, the kit can also be used to water vegetable beds, raised beds and other planted areas. The dripline applies water slowly at soil level, helping deliver moisture directly to the root zone without wetting the foliage unnecessarily.

Drip irrigation systems are often permitted during hosepipe bans because they apply water efficiently and directly to the root zone. However, the rules and exemptions vary between water companies and may require the system to be pressure regulated and operated with a timer. Always check the current restrictions with your local water supplier before using the system.
