Temporary Irrigation Systems and Portable Sprinklers
Temporary irrigation systems and portable sprinklers provide a flexible way to water lawns, landscaped areas, sports surfaces and newly planted ground without installing a permanent underground system. This range includes portable sprinkler units, temporary lawn watering kits and mobile irrigation solutions that can be quickly positioned, connected to a suitable water supply and moved between different areas as required.
Choosing the right portable sprinkler
The best portable sprinkler will depend on the size and shape of the area, the available water pressure and flow, and the surface on which the sprinkler will be positioned. Smaller sprinklers use less water and allow several units to operate together, while larger sprinklers cover a greater area but require a stronger water supply. Before choosing a sprinkler, it is important to check that the water source can provide the required flow while maintaining sufficient pressure.
For newly laid turf, grass seed and general lawn establishment, one of our complete temporary lawn watering kits is normally the simplest option. These packages include portable sprinkler sleds, commercial-quality hose, tap connections and the fittings needed to assemble the system. The medium STLW kit covers up to 250m² and is suitable for many domestic outside taps, subject to a flow test. The larger STLWL kit covers up to 400m² but requires a higher-flow commercial water point or pumped supply.
Where only one sprinkler is required, the Professional Lawn Sprinkler provides a convenient ready-to-use solution for established lawns, newly turfed areas and other large grassed surfaces. Its gear-driven sprinkler can be adjusted between part-circle and full-circle operation, making it suitable for both open areas and locations where water needs to be kept away from paths, buildings or neighbouring ground. Interchangeable nozzles provide a watering radius of up to approximately 12 metres, subject to the available pressure and flow.
For a larger or more specialised temporary irrigation system, individual sprinkler heads can be combined with a suitable portable riser. The Naan 501 is a low-output sprinkler that is useful where the available water flow is limited or where several sprinklers need to operate together. The Naan 5022U provides a larger watering diameter, while the adjustable Naan sprinklers offer part-circle or full-circle watering for areas where greater control over the watering arc is required. Higher-output models can cover larger areas but will place a greater demand on the water supply.
The type of sprinkler riser should be selected to suit the surface. Sled-mounted sprinklers can be used on lawns, newly laid turf, soil or hard surfaces and can be repositioned without pushing a spike into the ground. Spiked risers provide a stable option for established grass, soil and field areas, while cross-base risers are suitable for concrete, standing-out areas and other hard surfaces. Many of these risers can be connected in a series using hose and Geka-type fittings, allowing several sprinklers to water a wider strip.
